Hisko Hulsing (Amsterdam, The Netherlands 1971)

Majored in painting and animation at the Art Academy of Rotterdam in 1995. He started working on his first animated short Harry Rents a Room during an apprenticeship in the "Bratri v Triku" studio in Barrandov, Prague.

For years he divided his time between working on Harry Rents a Room and financing the film by working on commercial animation-, illustration- and directing-assignements for commercials, videoclips, leaders, bookcovers and cd-roms.

In July 1999 Harry Rents a Room was released in 8 copies in the Dutch theaters together with Existenz by David Cronenberg. In Januari 2000 it was released in the Czech Republic and in Slovakia in one program with Terry Gilliam's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

In 2004 Hisko Hulsing completed the animated short Seventeen, which was invited to numerous festivals like Telluride, Annecy, Montreal and Seattle, and was released in the Dutch theaters together with American Splendor.
In july 2004 Hisko's short animated film MTV-Son of the Blob was broadcasted on MTV in 'high rotation' and was selected for filmfestivals like Ottawa and Utrecht.

Seventeen is the official Dutch entry for the Academy Awards 2005 in the category Best Animated Short.

On the filmfestival in Dresden, Hisko Hulsing received a special mention for the soundtrack of Seventeen that he composed and arranged for a 22-piece orchestra, at the KROK festival in Russia he was given an award for best debutfilm and at the Bradford Animation Festival Seventeen won the award for best professional film.
